American composer Henry Brant, known for his pioneering development of spatial music, died in his home in Santa Barbara, California, on Saturday April 26, 2008 with his wife and children at his bedside. He was 94.

IAJE Ceases Operations and Files for Bankruptcy

The International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) closed its office on April 18, 2008, and has ceased operations. Chuck Owen, president of IAJE's board of directors, announced that the IAJE Board has voted to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 7 of the United States' Federal Bankruptcy Law.

The Australian Music Centre presents the second journal issue in resonate magazine: ‘Critical Times: Australian new music from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s’. By re-approaching some of the music composed by Australians in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, this journal issue provides new ways of approaching old understandings and prompts new questions for future debate. From the music of experimentalist David Ahern through to Ross Edwards and Nigel Butterley (featured composer in the 2008 Sydney Symphony School’s Concerts), guest editor Michael Hooper draws together a solid collection of thought-provoking articles on Australian new music.
